A Game-Changer Road Project Gets Green Signal
Key Highlights of the Project
- * The expressway will be a high-speed Greenfield access-controlled road.
- * It will connectNagpur–Hyderabad–Bengaluru, covering a total of 1,550 kilometers.
- * The road will allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 130 km/h or more.
- * The Central Government has already started work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
- * Tendershave been awarded to agencies for preparing the DPR for both the Nagpur–Hyderabad and Hyderabad–Bengaluru stretches.
Project Details
- * The Hyderabad–Bengaluru section will pass through Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
- * Telangana will see about 195 kmof this expressway.
- * Andhra Pradeshwill get around 350 km of the new road.
- * Karnatakawill have about 160 km of construction.
- * Total project cost is estimated at ₹ 35,000 crore (~USD 4.2 billion).
- * For the DPR alone, about ₹ 1,263 crore has been allocated for the Bengaluru extension.
Speed and Safety First
The proposed road will be designed for very high-speed travel, significantly faster than the existing Hyderabad–Bengaluru highway, which only allows speeds of up to 60 km/h in many sections due to curves, traffic, and design limitations.
- * The new road will have 8 lanes initially, with the possibility of expansion to 12 lanes in the future.
- * Land acquisition will be planned accordingly to avoid future difficulties in widening the road.
- * Advanced safety features, smooth curves, and fewer junctions will make this one of India’s most efficient highways.
Why Not Upgrade the Existing Highway?
According to experts, the current Hyderabad–Bengaluru road (NH-44) has limitations:
- * It’s just4 lanes wide, and expansion is difficult due to land constraints and poor geometric design.
- * It has sharp turns and uneven elevation, which makes high-speed travel unsafe.
Hence, the decision was made to build an entirely new high-speed corridor, starting from Nagpur to Hyderabad and then extending to Bengaluru as a second section.
Construction and Survey Work
- * The road will be built in two major sections:
- 1. Nagpur to Hyderabad (already planned and under DPR phase)
- 2. Hyderabad to Bengaluru (newly approved extension)
- * Adetailed land and route survey will soon begin.
- * The survey will cover:
- Required land area
- Forests, farmlands, and residential areas along the route
- Railway crossings and high-tension electric lines
- Alignment options for smooth and fast travel
Strategic Importance
- * This road is part of India’s North–South Economic Corridor (NH-47) under the National Highways Development Plan.
- * It will boost trade, transport, and tourism in all four states.
- * It will also improve cargo movement between Nagpur (Central India) and Bengaluru (South India) via Hyderabad, creating an economic growth corridor.
What’s Next?
- * Survey and DPR work will begin shortly.
- * After the DPR, land acquisition and construction phases will follow.
- * Completion of the full Nagpur–Hyderabad–Bengaluru expressway is expected before 2030, depending on project speed and clearances.
Conclusion
The Nagpur–Hyderabad–Bengaluru High-Speed Corridor is a major leap forward in India's highway development. With fast, safe, and modern road design, this project will change how people and goods move across Central and Southern India, bringing economic and social transformation along its route.
