Kolanupaka Someswara Temple to Get Heritage Makeover Under PRASAD 2.0 Scheme

spiritual tourism and preserve Telangana’s ancient heritage, the Central Government has
announced a comprehensive development plan for the Kolanupaka Someswara Temple
under the PRASAD 2.0 (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive)
scheme.The initiative includes restoration of the temple and its surroundings, the construction of an archaeological museum, and the development of a heritage corridor connecting the Someswara Swamy Temple to the historic Jain Temple, located nearby.
Key Development Highlights
Restoration of the Temple Complex
The centuries-old Someswara Swamy Temple, known for its Chalukyan-era architecture, will undergo a detailed restoration process. The plan includes:
- * Restoring the pushkarini (sacred pond) and surrounding mantapas (stone pavilions)
- * Removing unauthorized structures
- * Making the temple leak-proofand applying chemical treatmentsto the stone walls to protect against fungus and moisture damage
A dedicated archaeology museum will be constructed to preserve and display the region’s rich cultural artifacts. Highlights include:
- * 162 sculptures, inscriptions, and antiquities found within the temple and a 5-kilometer radius
- * Items include rare carvings, stone idols, and historical inscriptions unearthed by the Department of Archaeology
A new heritage pathway, about 500 meters long, will connect the Someswara Temple with the nearby Jain Temple—a symbol of Kolanupaka's multi-faith spiritual heritage. The road will:
